Half of those cities experienced a 50 percent or higher increase in their homicide rate versus 2019. 2022 homicide rates were typically much worse across the nation’s 20 “homicide hubs” compared to 2019.Of the 10 cities with the lowest homicide rates, all but one were located west of the Mississippi. All but one of the 10 cities with the nation’s highest homicide rates were located on or east of the Mississippi River in 2022.
